Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ should answer most questions you were thinking to ask. Please peruse the following information thoroughly!

Please note, all questions/correspondence about COMMISSIONING ME is included in a separate, specialized FAQ in the Commissions section of this page. Is your question still unanswered? Then contact me about it. Thanks~!

Q: [NEW!] What does 'aristeia' mean?

A: It's a greek word that technically means 'An episode which represents the epitome of warrior prowess.' It's been generalized today to mean excellence, or climax; Peak of achievement. Lorelai.com is my aristeia, somewhat - it's always in progress, but my proudest works will always be shared here!
Q: Who are you?

A: Lorelai. You might remember me from RPGamer's Fan Artwork department as curator from Dec. 1997 - August 2000, as founder of The Art Corner in December 1999, or as an ambitious UC Berkeley graduate in May 2002 with a double major in Art Practice and Music.
Q: Is Lorelai your real name?

A: I call it my 'adopted' middle name, since I was born in Taiwan and therefore have none. My sister and brother were born here with middle names, though, so 'Lorelai' was given to me by my friends when I was in middle school.
Q: Why 'Lorelai?'

A: Because it's unique, it's pretty, and I have a strong water affinity - I love swimming, merfolk, and including water effects and scenes in artwork, etc. I had this nickname way before the Gilmore Girls existed, yo!
Q: Who hosts your webpages?

A: Both Aristeia and The Art Corner are hosted by Rydia.net. I formally pimp Rydia.net and its awesome administrator, Dormando. ^O^
Q: May I use your HTML and/or website graphics for my website?

A: NO. the HTML and graphics of Lorelai.com were created for exclusive use on, yup, Lorelai.com. If you want graphics on your website, you can commission me to make a website for you, or you can download free web clipart...or, you can make your own graphics! My primary tools of the web design trade are Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Homesite 5. Unfortunately they are not free software. If you want to learn HTML or find free graphics software, there are many good tutorials and resources on the internet. My favorite search engine is Google.com. For old times's sake, sometimes I use Yahoo.com and Altavista.com as well.
Q: Will you make a website for me?

A: Building a website is a very involved process, and I no longer do it for free. You can, however, commission me for a website project, but the fee will not be in the two figure range...
Q: Can I right-click and download your artwork?

A: To be honest, I have no problem with that...usually. To be specific, I don't mind people downloading my art and storing them on their hard drive as long as it is for PERSONAL VIEWING PLEASURE ONLY. If it's not just for your eyes, though, please e-mail me first. NONE of my art should be used for non-personal purposes without my express permission. More info can be found in Lorelai.com's official disclaimer.
Q: May I display any of your fan artwork on my webpage?

A: In general, you MAY post my fan artworks on a webpage without my express permission if you follow the directions below. HOWEVER, I'd appreciate it if you would still e-mail me - I'd like to see your webpage!
  • Download the image, and then upload to your own server. Please do not link directly to the artwork!

  • Drop me an e-mail detailing what fanart you used, and what URL/page it will be posted at. You don't have to wait for my reply before posting, I just want to keep myself updated on where my art's being displayed.

  • DO NOT alter the artwork in any way. If you need to resize, crop, or change the art in any way, ask my permission first via e-mail (and wait for a response). Most likely, I'll be happy to do the editing for you.

  • Please properly credit W. Lorelai Wu and http://www.lorelai.com prominently, wherever my artwork my reside.
Q: May I display any of your other (non-fanart) artwork on my webpage?

A: My non-fanart works are most often posted exclusively at Lorelai.com and should not be posted anywhere else without my given permission. That being said, I generally am lenient about giving permission, so if you want to use my non-fanart artwork on a webpage somewhere, please ask me first. Note: Sorry, but NO commissioned artwork can be displayed elsewhere unless (1) I give SPECIFIC permission for you to do so. or (2) You are the commissioner. :P
Q: May I display your artwork on a non-internet medium (i.e. print out, etc)?

A: This depends on what you plan to do with the artwork...usually, anything is ok as long as the artwork is not sold or used for promotional purposes, but please e-mail me first before printing my art.
Q: Do you have any art I can use for selling/promotional purposes?

A: Your best bet would be to commission me for a piece of artwork, then. Once I finish a commissioned artwork for you, I transfer the rights to you and you are free to do with it as you wish. You can use it on your paid website, you can print it out and distribute it on flyers, etc etc...cor more information check out the Commissions section.
Q: Can I practice CGing/coloring any of your sketches and/or inked works?

A: Generally I'm fine with it, but please do not alter them in any way. PLEASE CREDIT my lineart though!!! Also I'd much prefer you only colored things out of the fanart section, and not my original sketches. If you're looking for inking/coloring practice, I humbly recommend The Art Corner's black-and-white sketch bin for inked artworks!
Q: Will you draw something for me?

A: If you have to ask this question, probably not...sorry. If I do, it'll be on my own time, when I have time.
Q: Why so many rules on what artworks other people can use?

A: I've seen too many incidents of stolen art, swipes, copies, and illegal sales, and I want to limit problems before they even start. Please do me a favor and just ask when in doubt, yah? ^_^ I love feedback, and I feel honored when people e-mail me requests anyway, it makes me feel that my art has affected someone in a good way!!
Q: Can you teach me how to draw/paint/CG?

A: I can't ;_; I SO wish I could! Please forgive me, but I can't give you an exclusive how-to via e-mail or instant messaging about how I do my artworks...the first reason is, it's simply too much to write given my time limitations; the second reason is, I'm still learning! However, I have a Tutorial section on the website, written to the best of my ability, which you are welcome to browse~!
